When the Skeleton Knife was first released in 2019 with the introduction of Operation Shattered Web, it did not turn many heads, with community sentiment being somewhat mild around this uniquely designed knife. This soon changed, however, when professional players started to use it in tournaments, and the price for most of its finishes started to climb rapidly.

Although there are many community favorite finishes available for the Skeleton Knife such as the Case Hardened, and Crimson Web, the one finish which stands out most is the Fade. On the surface, it is easily the most beautiful one, but there are many little intricacies surrounding it that you might want to know about if you are looking to get this knife at any point in time.

In this article, we will delve into the Skeleton Knife Fade’s pattern indexes and their corresponding percentage values, providing comprehensive insight into this particular finish.

How It Works

At the top right corner, you see a field where you can input a seed pattern with any value ranging from 0 to 999 for inspection. Upon entering the seed pattern, the slider on the top adjusts to display the corresponding Fade percentage tied to that seed number. Simultaneously, the Skeleton Knife Fade image at the center updates to mirror the specific Fade percentage, giving you an extremely accurate picture of how it would look in-game. At the bottom, you can see three different columns labeled Rank, Seed, and Fade. One row highlights the seed pattern you submitted, its rank compared to other seeds, and the associated Fade percentage. Additional rows list similar seed patterns in proximity, each with its respective rank and Fade percentage.

Skeleton Knife Fade - Unique Characteristics

The Fade is an Anodized Airbrushed finish that utilizes the three base colors of Yellow, Pink, and Purple, applied to the weapon surface through Triplanar mapping. A thousand different seed pattern variations are present, numbered from 0 to 999, each carrying a separate Fade percentage and distribution of base colors on the blade of the Skeleton Knife.

At a Fade percentage of 80, yellow and pink are the dominant colors, with a slight hint of purple visible at the tip, with these colors covering the whole blade till just above the large hole in the middle. At the highest Fade percentage of 100, the top third of the blade is covered in purple, the middle is covered in pink, followed by yellow which continues down to where the fabric wrapping starts on the handle. This makes seed pattern numbers 763, 575, 897, and 636 the most valued in the community.

Impact Of Seed Patterns On The Value Of A Skeleton Knife Fade

When considering the purchase or valuation of a Skeleton Knife Fade, the key factor to focus on is the seed pattern. Notably, distinguishing Fade percentages at 98%, 99% (Fake Full Fade), and 100% (Full Fade) is extremely challenging, even upon close examination. To aid in this, our Fade Calculator proves invaluable by providing the precise Fade percentage when the seed pattern number is submitted. Even a minor 1% disparity between 99% and 100% Fade significantly impacts the knife’s value. Therefore, to save yourself from either overpaying or getting scammed in a trade deal, it’s important to check the seed pattern first.

Impact Of Float Values On The Skeleton Knife Fade

All weapons with a Fade finish, whether they are guns or knives, have a float value range that lies between Factory New (0.00 - 0.07) and Minimal Wear (0.07 - 0.08). Since the largest value range lies in the Factory New condition, most Skeleton Knives with the Fade finish being unboxed are Factory New, which is evident from the numbers listed on marketplaces. At the time of writing, there are more than 4,000 Skeleton Knife Fades listed in FN condition, with a bit over 150 being Minimal Wear.

On most other weapons with a Fade finish, float values have a significant impact even at lower float values of 0.04, with visible abrasions or scratches. However, this is not the case with Skeleton Knives, where even on the highest float values possible, no scratches are apparent. As such, float values have little to no impact on the Skeleton Knife Fade.

Obtaining A Skeleton Knife Fade

If you’re aiming for a Skeleton Knife Fade, there are two main strategies you can adopt. The first method involves trying your luck with case openings in the hope of unboxing one. However, this approach is not recommended due to its unpredictable nature and the likelihood of a substantial financial loss. If, however, you still choose to pursue it, the two cases containing the Skeleton Knife Fade as a rare drop are as follows:

  1. Shattered Web Case
  2. Fracture Case

The Shattered Web Case, being part of an operation, understandably has low numbers in circulation, with a comparatively high price per case. Trying to open these in the hopes of getting a knife could end up being a very expensive proposition. The Fracture Case on the other hand still has a lot of listings on various marketplaces with its price still being relatively affordable, making it the better option to try your luck with.

However, a more pragmatic approach would be to directly purchase the Skeleton Knife Fade from one of the many third-party marketplaces. This way, you can specifically select a knife with your desired Fade percentage.

Concluding Remarks

We hope that you now have a good understanding of the various characteristics of the Fade finish on the Skeleton Knife. It’s a top-tier finish on a top-of-the-line knife that will likely continue to appreciate in the coming years. On Fade percentages over 95%, the knife can be paired with either the Sport Gloves Vice or the freakishly expensive Sport Gloves Pandoras Box while on lower Fade percentages where the blade has a higher proportion of yellow, it could look great with the Sport Gloves Omega as well.
