CS2 Update Adds Danger Zone Case & Battle Royale Mode

Introducing Danger Zone - a fast-paced battle royale game mode built on CS2’s tactical gameplay, where players use their wits, skill, and resources to fight to the finish. Play solo, or work together as a squad of two or three.

CS2 is also now free to play, so there has never been a better time to bring in your friends. All players who played before this update receive a commemorative Loyalty Badge they can display on their profile, and every existing account has been upgraded to Prime Status.

As before, Prime Status matches you with other Prime Status players. It also gives you access to the new Souvenir MP5-SD Lab Rats, available by earning XP while playing Danger Zone matches, and to the all-new Danger Zone Case.

The Danger Zone Case

The Danger Zone Case contains 17 community-designed skins from The Blacksite Collection. As a rare special item, it contains the Horizon knife finishes.

The Blacksite Collection

The 17 new finishes make up The Blacksite Collection, named after the map that Danger Zone is played on. All of them are exclusive to the Danger Zone Case.

And one more item arrives alongside the case - a foil Blacksite sticker to mark the new game mode.

Dropping into Blacksite

A Danger Zone match puts up to 18 players into Blacksite. You choose your entry point, explore, and uncover the map’s secrets while finding equipment and money and watching the skies for special deliveries.

There are several ways to out-earn your rivals. Safes contain cash - you don’t have the combination, but you might have some C4. Carrying a hostage to the rescue zone earns a cash bonus. And contracts pay extra for eliminating a high value target.

Fight or Flight

Your personal tablet is the key to success. You use it to track opponents’ positions, follow your deliveries, and chart a path that avoids the closing Danger Zone.

Every round is different: you identify opportunities on the buy menu and out-gun your opponents, and every engagement is under your control - use your intel to engage, or fall back to a safe position. The tablet itself can be upgraded to gain detailed intel on the looming Danger Zone, track opponents’ deliveries, or follow their movements to hunt them down.

Match Length and the Lab Rats Souvenir

Queue as a solo player and you enter a 16-player match, while squads of two or three push the lobby up to 18. Either way, a Danger Zone match typically runs about 10 minutes.

The Souvenir MP5-SD Lab Rats is earned rather than unboxed: you need Prime Status and 250 XP in Danger Zone to get one. XP comes from looting your environment, killing enemies, and simply surviving as long as you can. The souvenir is available to all players until January 9th, 2019.

Old Favorites, New Toys

Every match features a set of pistols, rifles, SMGs and heavy weapons from CS2’s classic arsenal, but resources are scarce - you either commit to your first weapons or plan ahead for something with more firepower, and every bullet counts.

There is room to get creative too, with breach charges, plant-anywhere C4, throwable melee weapons, and more. Delivery drones sometimes have a mind of their own, but always manage to find you outside when you need them most.

A boost from your Medi-Shot helps you recover quickly and get back in the fight, and administering a health shot also gives a temporary speed boost - handy while evading an attacker.
