The new Armory skins are now available on CS.MONEY

The Flip Knife Fade was one of the first knives introduced in CS2 with the release of the Arms Deal update way back in 2013. Although itโ€™s widely considered to be a mid-tier knife by the community, some of its finishes including the popular and extremely pleasing Fade finish make it one of the best-looking knives in the game, often being seen equipped by the legendary player S1mple himself. On the surface, the Fade finish looks simple enough with three base colors in different ratios on the weapons. However, the truth is that there are many complexities involved, and each Fade pattern is different from the other. In this guide, we will thoroughly detail all the intricacies and how they influence the look and value of the Flip Knife Fade, so make sure you read everything if you are looking to invest in it.

Flip Knife Fade Guide

If you are looking to purchase the Flip Knife Fade, it would be a good idea first to check out how it looks in-game. To make this easier, our Fade Percentage Calculator is the most accurate tool for the job:

How to use the Calculator:

The field in the upper right corner of the Calculator is where you can enter the seed number of the Flip Knife you want to check out. Once you have done that, the slider right next to it automatically moves to the Fade percentage that corresponds with the entered seed pattern. The image of the Flip Knife also reflects the updated seed and you can easily determine the ratio of the Fade colors and coverage of the pattern on the blade. There are three different columns right below the image of the knife which are Rank, Seed, and Fade. One of the rows shows the seed pattern you entered earlier in the seed field, its rank compared to other seed patterns for the Flip Knife, and its Fade percentage as a numerical value. The other rows in the table have seed patterns that are similar to the one that was entered.

Alternatively, you can also adjust the Fade percentage slider manually without entering a seed number if you wish to see how the full spectrum of the Fade percentage looks on the Flip Knife Fade.

Flip Knife Fade: Factors That Affect Value And Look

Although there are a number of different factors that may influence the value of the Flip Knife Fade, there are only two that determine its look and ultimately have the largest impact on its value. We will take a look at both of these in detail below:

Seed Patterns

The Fade finish has a total of 1000 different seed patterns, numbered from 0-999, each of which determines the Fade percentage that will be present on the weapon skin. The fade percentage ranges from 80 - 100%. Seeds are also an important determinant of the ratio in which the three Fade colors, that is, Purple, Pink, and Yellow, will be visible. At lower Fade Percentages, a small part of the blade remains unpainted, which may negatively affect its value.

On the Flip Knife, seed pattern 412 gives an 80% Fade level. At this percentage, 10% of the bottom part of the blade remains unpainted, with yellow and pink taking up 80% of the area between them, and the last 10% near the tip being purple. If you are obsessed with seeing the full blade painted, you should aim to get a Flip Knife with at least a 95% Fade percentage, which can be found in seeds 808, 79, 289, 757, 769, 176, and 955.

At a 100% Fade level, the blade is covered in equal parts yellow, pink, and purple, and this is the most valuable pattern for the Flip Knife Fade.

Float Values

At a float value of 0.05, a small abrasion starts to become noticeable if you look closely, at the bottom of the blade right underneath the serrations, and gets considerably worse as the float value gets higher. Although the area of the abrasion is rather small, if you are someone who wants a completely unblemished finish, expect to pay up to 100 USD more for a low float Factory New Flip Knife Fade.

How To Obtain A Flip Knife Fade

There are a number of different methods you can adopt to get your hands on the Flip Knife Fade. We will go through each of them briefly, so that you can judge for yourself which path you want to take:

Trading

Trading these days is not what it used to be back in the day and has become quite a time-consuming affair that requires some luck. It involves asking around the community if anyone has the knife and is willing to trade it. If you do manage to find someone, make sure you have skins that are equivalent in value to the price of the Flip Knife Fade but expect to make a small overpay as well. However, before you go around asking for trades, make sure to inform yourself about the best trading practices that help you avoid getting scammed.

Opening Cases

Case openings involve buying cases, buying keys to open those cases, and then opening them in the hopes of getting the skins you want. With this method, there is a considerable risk of losing money, as there is no guarantee of getting a rare item dropped regardless of the number of cases unboxed. However, if you still want to go through with it, the Flip Knife Fade comes as a rare drop in the following cases:

  1. CSGO Weapon Case
  2. CSGO Weapon Case 2
